artist statement 

Through my relationship with colour and form, painting allows me to process emotions, responding to both personal experiences and to what continues to be, a changeable climate on many fronts.  The process of making, the decisions concerning colour, materials, layering, surface and showcasing accidental marks, become the artwork.  Within the imagery, a solitary figure or an abstracted landscape may appear.  Media such as ink, masking tape, or pencil, enhance contrasting elements, creating visual intrigue, tension, or rhythm within a work.  Their presence may be active in the painting, or applied more subtly, as an accent.
