gouache colour study on paper
Aisha Bridgman is a contemporary painter, who works from her home studio in Surrey.
I make abstract paintings using mixed media, including gouache, acrylic and watercolour, often sewing into and around the canvas frame during the final stages of the work. I paint without a prescriptive approach, sometimes combining acrylic paint with gouache or water-based oils for example.
My most recent body of work has touched upon elements of the landscape. I use thread to enhance compositional details further, or to provide contrasting accents of colour. My intention is to achieve balance across the painting.
Influenced by Abstract Expressionism, my artistic approach has grown out of the desire to make something authentic and original for both myself and the viewer.
I move between larger and smaller marks to create different textures; brush strokes are visible. I want to give the viewer something new to consider and am satisfied when the work feels harmonious.
