The full proceeds from the sale of this painting were donated to BLAM UK, a not-for-profit charity, which amongst other things, host workshops aimed at ensuring education is more diverse and that Black children can see and learn about their unique and important history.

'Rise' is one of my favourite paintings. It is a pinnacle work in my development, as it pulls together the mixed media elements, the landscape compositions and my current interpretation of the world at this time; how we collectively need to move forward during adversity. It cements the beginning of a new path for me and is a positive painting.

In this landscape, inspired by the previous painting 'Rise', I wanted to use a darker palette, to move away from the brights I had been using, to challenge myself with
a more limited, palette. The upward strokes reminded me of the form of the cypress trees in Tuscany.

I had just returned from a hiking break in Dartmoor, when I decided to make another painting inspired by 'Rise'. No doubt, the rock formations which I came across seep into this work. I wanted this painting to echo the challenge of moving through the craggy, rocky terrain and moving upwards towards a more positive vision metaphorically.
